An Ode to Oatmeal (from the perspective of an almost two-year-old)

oatmeal you're yummy
you make me so full
you're inside my overalls instead of my bowl

oatmeal you're sticky
you're stuck to the ins and outs of my ribs
why don't you EVER fall down into my bib?

oatmeal you're gooey
I feel really quite blessed
that even at breakfast I can make a HUGE mess

Let's just say that I was inspired this morning ;-)

Okay, now here's a bit of advice on concocting oatmeal....from what I have observed, the general public has NO IDEA WHATSOEVER how to cook oatmeal (which is, incidentally, why I think so many people loathe oatmeal).  The secret dear friends is....MILK.  Cook your oats in it and you will be happy, you will feel blessed, you will LOVE oatmeal.  Instead of an insipid porridge, you end up with a creamy treat (particularly when topped with fruit or honey).  Seriously though, try it.  And, if you are so inclined, stir in some flax meal while it cooks.  Good stuff. :-)

Mmm... Have I heard that ode before? Or is it the storyline that is so familiar?

In his ears, up his nose, in his hair...I'm sure he'll bountifully reap the health benefits once it regularly makes it into his mouth ;-)

Oats are awesome! Fast, cheap, and easy to dress up. Have you ever tried Baked Oatmeal?

Yes! We love baked oats (even though I haven't made them for a while...thanks for the reminder!), esp. made with peach juice with brown sugar and butter on top. Yum! :-)
